In recent Memorandum from the Executive Secretary (Office of the President), the opening of classes for Academic Year 2020-2021 will be on October 5, 2020.
In the previous announcement of the Department of Education (DepEd), the opening of classes was initially scheduled on August 24, 2020. They even launched the National Kick-Off Program on “Handang Isip, Handa Bukas!” in preparation for the August 24 opening of classes.

[Text] Please be informed that pursuant to the instructions of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and as recommended by the DepEd, the opening of classes is deferred to 05 October 2020. In this regard, the DepEd is hereby instructed to ensure that all preparations have been made for the smooth and successful virtual opening of classes for Academic Year 2020-2021.
How about Private Schools?
Based on the latest DepEd Advisory, they clarified that private schools or non-Deped schools that have already started their classes or are scheduled to start classes on August 24 or on other dates ahead of October 5, are allowed to proceed provided they are strictly using only distance learning modalities and there are no face-to-face classes.
