In an interview of CNN Philippines, DFA Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano informed the public that DFA online passport appointment will open 5,000 more slots [each] at lunch and at dinner.
Sec. Cayetano: “Bottomline: There are much more applying for passports daily than the capability of DFA, at napabayaan ito in the past.
“When I became Secretary, we’re doing 10,500 [passport applications] a day. We’re now doing 19,000 [applications] a day. In a few months, when we open our six new offices—we’ve already opened two this year in Ilocos [Norte] and Isabela—we’ll be doing 30,000 [applications] a day.
“Yesterday, we opened 50,000 [passport appointment slots] at 12 noon and 50,000 at night. Something happened, the system crashed for a while. 5:30 a.m. [today], I checked it again, and Aseana was open for the whole July. (Read: DFA opens 100k more passport appointment slots on 14 June 2018)
“With ePayment, we’re expecting 95 to 100 percent ang pupunta. Nagtataka kami, dahil people really want an appointment and they really need their passport. But how come 20 to 40 percent do not show up [at the date of their appointment]?
“What we did: Ngayon, when you get your appointment, you’re given a number. You go to any of the authorized bayad centers… and we’ll expand that more. When you pay, you’ll be given a slip. You go to your appointment. And supposedly, walang 30 minutes, tapos ang process.”
Last 16 June 2018, the official Facebook Page of Department of Foreign Affairs Republic of the Philippines issued a public advisory regarding the online appointment portal server maintenance. Opening of appointment slots will resume on Monday, 18 June 2018, at 12 noon and 9 p.m.
