The March 20, 2026 holiday in the Philippines has been officially declared as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the Feast of Ramadhan.
The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 1189, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., allowing the entire nation to join Muslim Filipinos in celebrating this important religious event.
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Muslims around the world. By declaring March 20, 2026 as a regular holiday, the government recognizes the cultural and religious significance of this celebration for the Filipino Muslim community.

The proclamation states that the declaration aims to:
- Give due recognition to the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr
- Allow the entire Filipino nation to join Muslim brothers and sisters in celebration
- Promote peace, harmony, and national unity during the observance of the feast

The recommendation to declare the holiday came from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), which advised the government on the appropriate date for the celebration.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the most important Islamic holidays. It celebrates the completion of Ramadan, a month of fasting from dawn to sunset observed by Muslims as an act of spiritual discipline and devotion.
During Eid’l Fitr, Muslim families typically:

- Share festive meals with family and friends
- Give charity to those in need (Zakat al-Fitr)
- Strengthen bonds within the community
In the Philippines, the holiday is widely observed in Muslim-majority areas such as Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other communities across the country.

Regular Holiday Pay Rules for March 20, 2026
Since the March 20, 2026 holiday is classified as a regular holiday, employees are entitled to specific holiday pay benefits under Philippine labor laws.
If the employee does not work
- The employee is entitled to 100% of their daily wage.
If the employee works on the holiday
- The employee should receive 200% of their regular daily wage for the first eight hours.
If the employee works overtime
- Additional overtime pay applies on top of the holiday rate.
Employers are advised to follow the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) guidelines regarding holiday compensation.
